Welcome to bug season! There's something around here in Wisconsin that takes a nasty bite. Someone said chiggers, but I'm not sure. It's like a mosquito bite that is both painful and itchy. It swells into a huge, rock-hard lump, about the diameter of a golf ball. They go black and blue as they very slowly heal, and they make the kids miserable, as well as making them look later like they've been in a fight.
But two years ago, in the face of an unhappy bitten child, I gently lay my hand over the area to do some hands-on Reconnective Healing. We chatted and after about two minutes, I thought I must have moved my hand because I could feel my daughter's skin pull away from mine.
But no, it had just decreased in swelling that much! The area was also much softer. I've tried this over and over, and I find it rather entertaining to do this for just a few minutes (no more than 5, usually 2 or 3) until I feel the swelling recede under my hand. The bites also tend to heal up super fast!
